It's a raised bed garden, so has good drainage, and has good soil , but gets some competition from maple roots. I think they actually like a bit more sun than they have now, since they aren't as vigorous now as they were 10 years ago when the maples were smaller and cast less shade on the bed. They have self-seeded some.
